So disturbing, yet so brilliant.

A young British couple are driving through France on holiday when they stop for gas. He runs in to pay, she stays in the car. When he returns her car door has been left open, but she’s not inside. No one ever sees her again.
Ten years later he’s engaged to be married; he’s happy, and his past is only a tiny part his life now. Until he comes home from work and finds his new wife-to-be is sitting on their sofa. She’s turning something over in her fingers, holding it up to the light. Something that would have no worth to anyone else, something only he and she would know about because his wife is the sister of his missing first love.
As more and more questions are raised, their marriage becomes strained. Has his first love somehow come back to him after all this time? Or is the person who took her playing games with his mind?
It took me a lot of time to decide if it is a 4 or a 5 star book for me.
It is fast-paced, has easy writing style, great story and has the ability to keep you hooked. The perfect formula for a good book! Except for the end. The end was so unpredictable and shocking.
The story starts with a couple living happily together. Then things start to change for the worse when the topic of them getting married surfaced. Ellen wanted Finn to propose her which he did reluctantly. Soon after that, they both started receiving Russian dolls at different places. These Russian dolls are connected to an old memory of a girl (Layla) that the guy, Finn, used to date who was also the younger sister of Ellen with whom Finn is living now.
Finn started receiving emails from Layla in which she ask him to leave her sister to bring Layla back otherwise she would disappear forever. Now, he is torn between the two sisters and didn’t know who to choose.
Who would he choose and who he would ask to leave? Also, there is a dark secret behind vanishing of Layla and Finn is afraid if someone finds it out.
The ending was mind-boggling nonetheless but not justified. I don’t want to give spoilers so I will leave it to the readers to read the book and decide themselves.
The cover of the book is absolutely amazing. It is pleasing to look at and you will be intrigued to pick up the book and found yourself interested in reading the synopsis. But sadly it doesn’t reflect the story.
If you are good at guessing the stories and are used to of your predictions turning out correct (as if there is no originality in the stories anymore) then this book is perfect for you. Put yourself to brainstorming and guess wildest endings and prepare yourself to be amazed because you will be wrong this time.
